Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Jumpbar (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) handles your information when you use the app and its Safari extension.

The short version: the app collects nothing and sends nothing to us. There is no server we operate, no account with us, and no analytics.

One thing does leave your device, and only if you switch it on: iCloud sync copies your keyword list to your own Apple Account. Your search words never leave your device either way. Everything below explains that in detail.

Information We Collect

None. We do not collect, store on our servers, or transmit any user data. We operate no server for this app.

Local Settings

The following is stored on your device only, in a shared app group container that the app and its extension both read. It never leaves your device:

Deleting the app removes this data from the device.

iCloud Sync (optional, off by default)

Jumpbar Plus can keep your keyword list on your own Apple Account, so the sites you added show up on your other devices. It is off until you turn it on in the app.

What is synced: the sites you added - their keywords, site names, and search addresses - and which built-in keywords you turned off.

What is not synced: your search words. Those are compared against your keyword list inside the browser and are never written anywhere, with or without sync.

Where it goes: Apple’s iCloud key-value storage, under your Apple Account. We cannot see it. We operate no server and receive nothing. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Turning it off removes the synced copy from iCloud. Your keywords stay on the device.

Website Access

The Safari extension requests access to all websites. This is required because Safari does not let an extension read the address of a page unless access to that site is granted, and a search can start from any of the supported search engines.

In practice the extension does almost nothing on almost every page. On each page it:

  1. Checks the hostname. If it is not one of the supported search engines (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Startpage, Brave, Qwant, Yahoo), it stops immediately and does nothing else.
  2. On a supported search engine, it reads only the search query from the page address - nothing else on the page.

It does not read, store, or transmit page content, form input, cookies, or browsing history. It does not add scripts or overlays to pages.

Search Redirection

When the first word of your search matches one of your keywords, the extension redirects that tab to the matching site’s search address, with the rest of your search as the query.

Your search text stays on your device during this. It is compared against your keyword list locally, inside the browser. It is not sent to us, not sent to the app’s native code, and not included in iCloud sync.

The redirect then loads the site you chose, so that site receives your search words - exactly as it would if you had typed the search on that site yourself. Those sites are third parties and their own privacy policies apply. If the first word is not one of your keywords, nothing happens and your original search results load normally.

Our website offers a gallery of ready-made keywords. Tapping one opens a link (mdjumpbar://) that fills in the add form inside the app. The app never saves anything from such a link on its own - you see the values first and choose whether to save them.

The gallery is a static page on GitHub Pages. It has no forms, no accounts, and we run no analytics on it.

Information We Do NOT Collect

Third-Party Services

The app uses no third-party SDKs, analytics services, or advertising networks.

Sites you reach through a keyword (search engines, shopping sites, wikis, and so on) are operated by third parties. Their privacy policies govern what they do with the search words they receive.

Advertising

The app does not display any advertisements.

In-App Purchases

The app offers one optional purchase, Jumpbar Plus. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and it removes the limit on how many sites and keywords you can add yourself.

Apple processes the payment. We never see or receive your payment details, and no purchase information is sent to us - the app asks the App Store directly whether this Apple Account owns Plus, and stores only a yes/no answer on your device. Apple’s handling of the transaction is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

The app works without Plus. Built-in keywords and one site of your own stay free.

Data Security

Your keyword list stays on your device, in the app group container protected by iOS. With iCloud sync on, a copy also sits in your own Apple Account, protected by Apple’s account security.

Because we operate no server, there is no transmission of your data to us and nothing of yours for us to lose.

Children’s Privacy

The app does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

Your Rights

Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to give you access to, correct, or delete. You can remove your keywords at any time inside the app, and deleting the app removes all of its stored settings from your device.

If you bought Plus, that purchase belongs to your Apple Account, not to us. Restore it on a new device with “Restore purchase” in the app. Refunds are handled by Apple.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
